Australia Day Ambassadors Program

The Australia Day Ambassador program, proudly presented by Woolworths, aims to capture the true spirit of Australia Day by encouraging communities across Queensland to come together and support the celebration of this important national day.

The program involves high achieving and inspirational Queenslanders from a variety of fields travelling to metropolitan and regional areas throughout the State to take part in local Australia Day celebrations. Ambassadors are adopted by communities and invited to participate in a diverse array of celebrations that range from citizenship ceremonies to thong throwing competitions and bush tucker tours.

Woolworths, Australia 's leading retailer, has been supporting Australian communities for more than 80 years and is proud to spread the spirit of Australia Day through its sponsorship of the Australia Day Ambassador program.

The Australia Day Ambassador program will be run nationally for the first time in 2008, including Western Australia and the Northern Territory.  Beginning with just nine NSW Ambassadors in 1990, the Australia Day Ambassador program has expanded with the support of Woolworths over the past seven years to involve more than 300 Ambassadors in metropolitan and regional community celebrations.

In 2008, Woolworths will enable these communities to meet and interact with outstanding Queenslanders as they share inspirational stories about what being Australian means to them.

The 2008 Australia Day Ambassadors were chosen for the positive and significant contribution they have made to areas such as sport, business, media and the arts.
